Culture is a unique variable that shapes and influences the meaning society derives from the world. It is the lens that influences what we see and do not see; it characterizes how we perceive and interpret the things around us and where we draw boundaries (Mazrui, 1990). Similarly, Lebaron and Pillay (2006) note that culture is the social fabric that defines the beliefs, norms and goals of every society and shapes its perceptions, attitudes, values, outcomes and behaviours.
