WAPI 2006 |

Applications to WAPI 2006 is now open. WANEP
would like everyone who is interested to fill the necessary form
and submit it to the appropriate contacts as stated. |
Admission to WAPI is open to practitioners, students,
and policy makers interested in peacebuilding, human rights awareness
and advocacy, development, arms control, humanitarian aid, social
welfare, and gender. Although the Institute will focus on challenges in
West Africa, it is open to interested participants from other parts of
Africa as WAPI is rooted in collaboration and the integration of
practices and experiences. Participants will be selected on a first come
first serve basis once the major criteria are met. Particular emphasis
will be placed on gender balance, organizational representation and
geographic as well as linguistic diversity.
Criteria
- Fluency in spoken
and written French and/or English
- At least two years of experience in peacebuilding, relief, development,
human rights or social welfare.
- Clear
goals and objectives for applying the learning of WAPI to a specific setting or
program and a commitment to return home to join efforts of others in working for
peace.
- A
strong recommendation from a recognized organization or person

Information
The following information must be received before we can process your
application. Those who were accepted for courses last year need not supply
this information again, with the exception of
the
Statement of Financial Support.

Statement of Experience:
Please describe your relevant work and experiences, past and present, which
motivates your interest in and aptitude for the training program;

Statement of Intent:
Please write a short essay
(not more than 500 words – font type: arial, font size: 10: single line
spacing)
stating your objective for studying at WAPI and ways in which you intend to
apply the training you receive;

Statement of Financial Support:
Please state how you intend paying for your study at WAPI;
and

Letter of Reference:
Please forward a letter of reference from an organization or person involved
in any of the aforementioned fields. The letter should comment on
(1)
how long they have known you;
(2)
what capacity they have observed your work;
(3)
what your work entails;
and (4)
in their opinion, how this training will be helpful in your ongoing work.
