In a bid to promote peace in the upcoming general elections in Ghana, the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) has disseminated Information, Education and Communications (IEC) materials across the length and breadth of Ghana.
WANEP with support from STAR-Ghana has produced three thousand, one hundred (3,100) IEC materials (T-shirts, danglers, stickers), with inscriptions such as “I am the Peace”, “Be the Peace”, and “Building Peace Together” to advocate and encourage Ghanaians to exhibit the ideals and values of peace before, during and after the December 7th elections.
Some of the materials were distributed through eminent persons in the ten regions of Ghana. The WANEP regional secretariat also embarked on a mass distribution to various bus terminals of the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Accra Metropolis; the Youth wing of the National Commission on Civic Education –University of Ghana, Legon; Civil society partners and other stakeholders with the aim of stimulating peaceful attitude in the voters as they go to the polls on 7th December.
The major outcome of the exercise is the general acceptance and appreciation of the materials by the recipients and their assurance to eschew violence throughout the election period in order to maintain peace, stability and democracy in Ghana.
