In the line with WANEP’s mission and vision of providing the platform for civil society collaboration and experience sharing towards a peaceful West Africa and in supporting the ECOWAS peace agenda for sustainable development in the sub region, WANEP on 12th and 13th of July 2012 officially launched its network in Niger.
Following the political impasse and the resultant military coup in Niger, most of WANEP’s partners have been hesitant about funding this initiative and thus WANEP has been operating the Niger National Network through a focal point. Thanks to the return of true democracy and the support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), the network has now been launched. This brings to completion the establishment of WANEP national networks in all the ECOWAS member states.
The ceremony was held at Hotel Sahel in Niamey and brought together more than 50 dignitaries and personalities from the Government of Niger, the United Nations System, Diplomatic Missions, International Organisations, Religious Leaders and Civil Society Organisations (many constituting as founding members of WANEP-Niger).
