Positions:                               WANEP Zonal Coordinators

Number of persons:                1 per Zone

Duration of assignments:        1.5 years (with possibility for extension)

The Zonal Coordinators will principally be responsible for coordinating the Early warning and response networks (system) within  the WANEP National Networks in the 3 ECOWAS zones and to interface CSOs peace monitoring and conflict prevention activities with ECOWAS at the zonal level. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Zonal Coordinators will undertake the following functions:

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Act as a focal point for the regional office, field monitors and at the zonal level in early warning and conflict prevention

  2. Coordinate with NNCs at Zonal level and liaise with the Programme Director at the Regional Office for institutional decision making and management

  3. Coordinate with WANEP National Networks in the Zones on issues related to early warning and conflict prevention   

  4. Consult on a regular basis with Programme Director for the effective implementation of the early warning and conflict prevention program

  5. Participate in the production of reports such as: situation reports, Incident report, policy briefs, etc.

  6. Ensure quality control and management of early warning data at zonal level

  7. Coordinate timely flow of quality information from the national, to zonal and regional levels.

  8. Organize monthly de-briefing sessions at the zonal level with ECOWAS zonal bureaus.

  9. Establish contacts with WANEP liaison office and  the Peace Monitoring Centre,  news sources, researchers and other stakeholders in relation to Early Warning and Conflict Prevention

  10. Coordinate various capacity building training workshops for CSOs, ECOWAS and relevant stakeholders in Early Warning and Conflict Prevention issues at the zonal level and in the various countries that make up the zone

  11. Coordinate with National Network Coordinators and member organizations to ensure the sustainability of the WARN program.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a good first degree in relevant discipline relating to conflict analysis, prevention and peace building, including governance and human rights issues. Proven experience of peacebuilding practice will be an added advantage.  

  • Experience of coordination skills and network organization   

  • Good project management, analytical, training, communication and advocacy skills;     

  • Good knowledge and understanding of West African political and socio-economic issues affecting the sub-region. 

  • Must have a good writing and presentation skills

  • Must be an IT literate with at least knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
