Strategic
Priorities 2002:
WANEP launches WAPI
The
West Africa Network for Peacebuilding will launch a long-term
Training Institute in 2002. With support from the Catholic Relief
Services-West Afrcia Regional Office and the William and Flora
Hewlett Foundation, WAPI will be lauched at a three-week intensive
course beginning in September 2002. The primary goal of WAPI is
to increase the number of competent, active peacebuilding practitioners
in West Africa; thus, increasing the possibilities of achieving
reconciled, just, and stable societies in the subregion. Such
stable societies, it is assumed, serve as incentives for socio-economic
development activities. With support from the Catholic Relief
Services, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and other partners
40% of the participant in each of the three courses will be fully
supported. These will be drawn from local and national organizations
active in West and Central Africa.
